Our mission for the Westport, CT, public schools is "to help students acquire the attributes necessary to be successful in the complex, technological, information-based, and rapidly changing 21st-century world." Since 2001, this mission has guided the development of our Information and Technology Literacy (ITL) curriculum, as well as the creation of implementation strategies to ensure that all staff members take ownership of the ITL curriculum. Our mission makes it logical and necessary for all members of our community to work together to utilize ITL skills and strategies in our daily teaching. In this article, I chronicle some of our group's successes and challenges. As coordinator of ITL for 2 years and a former elementary teacher-librarian in the district for 6 years, I am writing about initiatives made possible by a large group of people, including the superintendent, assistant superinten dent for curriculum and instruction, the present and previous directors of" technology and their staffs, all school administrators, all library media and technology staff, all teachers on the curriculum writing committees, and each school's ITL committee members.
